Top 10 Most Stable Stocks in Australia (October 2026)
ATLAS looked at 546 listed companies in Australia and kept the 180 that are large and liquid enough to rank (market value of at least $1 billion, with real trading volume). The table shows the 10 with the smallest expected price swings. "Stable" here means smaller typical moves up or down, not a forecast of gains. The steadiest, Argo Investments, has a typical monthly move of ±3.2%; the median of the whole group is ±9.6%. These are estimates.

How ATLAS ranks the most stable stocks in Australia
For each stock, ATLAS measures how much its price has been moving day to day (its volatility, from the same signal used on each company page). The typical monthly move shown is that daily volatility scaled to 21 trading sessions (about a month): roughly, a swing of that size up or down in a month would not be unusual. Stocks are ranked from the smallest to the largest.
To keep small, thinly traded stocks and near-frozen prices (for example companies being acquired for cash) out, only companies with a market value of at least $1 billion, enough daily trading volume and a minimum level of movement are ranked; funds and trusts are excluded. Among the largest with data, we show the steadiest.
Limits: stable does not mean safe, and it does not mean the price will rise. A stable stock can still fall, and volatility changes over time, often when you least expect it. The chance of rising is shown as context; it comes from the same model as the company pages, which uses the same long-run drift for every stock. All figures are estimates, they can be wrong, and past results do not guarantee future ones. This is information, not investment advice.
Frequently asked questions
Which are the most stable stocks in Australia?
In October 2026, the three with the smallest expected monthly swings among large, liquid companies are Argo Investments, Wam Leaders, and Steadfast. Argo Investments is the steadiest, with a typical monthly move of ±3.2%.
What does "stable" mean here?
That the price has recently moved less from day to day than other large, liquid stocks, so ATLAS expects smaller swings over the next month. It says nothing about whether the price will go up or down.
Does stable mean safe?
No. Stable stocks can still fall, sometimes sharply, and volatility can rise without warning. The figures are statistical estimates, not guarantees.
Which stocks are included?
Of 546 listed companies in Australia, 180 pass the filters: market value of at least $1 billion, enough trading volume, not a fund or trust, a minimum level of movement and enough price history to estimate the model. The list shows the 10 steadiest.
How often is the list updated?
Prices and signals come from ATLAS's stored data, refreshed every day, and this page is rebuilt at least every 6 hours. The date at the top shows the latest data used.
