What happened
Preliminary research to be presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2026 found that caffeinated energy drinks and stimulant supplements appeared disproportionately often in FDA reports of serious cardiovascular events, especially among adults ages 18 to 34 [1]. The beverage makers Monster Beverage and PepsiCo are included as context for the category; their share prices were unchanged between the November 2 and November 3 closes.
The research reviewed more than 28,000 adverse-event reports to the FDA over eight years, 2017-2025. Caffeinated energy drinks and stimulant supplements were linked to serious heart conditions far more often than other products, including cardiac arrest and heart attacks [1]. The work is described as independent and preliminary [1].
The findings are to be presented at the meeting in Chicago, Nov. 6-9 [1]. NBC News reported that adverse events related to the heart were far more common for energy drinks and stimulant supplements than for other FDA-regulated products [3].
The American Heart Association release says sales of caffeinated energy drinks have more than doubled over the past decade, reaching over $20 billion in 2024. It also cites a 2026 AHA Scientific Statement saying up to 400 mg of caffeine per day is generally safe for most adults [1].
The release adds that some energy drinks contain as much as 3 times more caffeine per fluid ounce than brewed coffee, and some pre-workout supplements more than 12 times as much [1]. A Seeking Alpha headline says energy drinks face fresh scrutiny over potential cardiac risks [2].

Two share prices moving, or not moving, around the same dates as a news event does not show that one caused the other. The figures come from market closes and may change, and the research is preliminary.
