King's College London and Cranfield University confirmed on 2 November that they will merge on 1 August 2027 [2]. Cranfield will become King's tenth faculty and revert to its original name, the Cranfield Institute of Technology [2].

King's College London and Cranfield University confirmed that the universities will merge on 1 August 2027 [2]. Times Higher Education reports that the two institutions announced the merger after agreeing the terms of their agreement [3].

After the merger, Cranfield will become King's tenth faculty and its original name, the Cranfield Institute of Technology, will be restored [2]. The BBC says Cranfield has been known by its current name since 1993 [1].

The new institute will be home to Cranfield Defence and Security, based at Shrivenham, which will collaborate with King's School of Security Studies [2]. Times Higher Education describes Shrivenham as a site on a military base in Wiltshire that will be retained [3].

Cranfield's business school will join King's Business School as the Cranfield School of Management [2]. Prof Shitij Kapur, vice-chancellor and president of King's, said the merger was intended to "enhance the impact that King's and Cranfield already have on our society" [1].
