What happened

The RMT union has announced a series of 24-hour London Underground driver strikes starting on 26 November, in opposition to plans for four-day working weeks [1]. The first session that can reflect the event is 6 November, so the market reaction will be visible at that day's close and this page will be updated then.

London Underground drivers are to stage a series of 24-hour strikes in a long-running dispute over working arrangements, the RMT union has announced. The walkouts begin on 26 November, in opposition to plans to introduce four-day working weeks [1].

Further strikes are planned for 17 December, 19 December, 4 January, 6 January, 17 February, 23 February and 25 February [1]. The Guardian describes eight 24-hour strikes, including six in the lead-up to Christmas, with the first starting at noon on 26 November [2].

The union says drivers will face longer hours driving trains and work longer days, but Transport for London (TfL) previously said its four-day week proposal was voluntary and would mean drivers work fewer hours overall [1]. The Guardian reports that the proposal has been warmly welcomed by the majority of drivers represented by the Aslef union [2].

The Guardian adds that disruption could mean few tube trains over the last shopping weekend before Christmas [2]. The Telegraph's headline refers to tube drivers striking over the Christmas period [3].

What ATLAS data show

ATLAS model estimates are available for three of the four companies. Whitbread's close of £28.35 is 52.82% above its fair value estimate of £18.55. Marks and Spencer's close is 17.61% below its estimate of £5.39, and Next's is 16.52% below its estimate of £191.54. These are model estimates with wide ranges, not promises or advice, and InterContinental Hotels has no estimate in the sheet.

The market reaction will be visible at the close of November 6, and this page will be updated then. Once prices are available, a coincidence in time between two closes would not show that the strikes caused any move. The figures are from closes and may change.
