Frequently asked questions

What is dividend yield?

Dividend yield is the annual dividend per share divided by the share price. For London shares this page uses the yield stored by EODHD, because dividends are not always paid in the currency of the pound quote. It moves with the price and is not a promise from the company.

What is the ex-dividend date?

It is the first day the share trades without the right to the next dividend. If you own the share before that date, you keep the right to receive it.

What does payout mean?

Payout is the share of earnings per share paid out as a dividend. Above 100% means the dividend is larger than the earnings per share the provider records for the period. Payouts below 5% are treated as unreliable and hidden.

Which large LSE stock has the highest dividend yield today?

On current data, NatWest (NWG) at 6.0%. A high yield can reflect a fallen share price or a one-off payment, so look at the payout and the history as well.

Do the yields on this page include tax?

No. Yields are before tax. Whether a dividend is taxed depends on how you hold the shares (for example inside an ISA or a pension) and on your allowances, which ATLAS does not model. Check HMRC guidance or a tax professional.

Who regulates the UK stock market?

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulates UK financial markets and the firms that operate in them, and the London Stock Exchange (LSE) runs the main exchange. ATLAS is an information service. It is not a broker and does not give personalised investment advice.
